Hook Norton Images
Welcome to the revised website for my photography. Since I made a career change over 30 years ago I have steadily built up a collection of images of a variety of subjects. When I started I was living in London and submitted images of celebrities and London scenes to a couple of photo libraries. However, my family and I relocated to Hook Norton in Oxfordshire in the summer of 2000 which resulted in a change of emphasis as celebrities are a good bit thinner on the ground out here than in London. Accordingly the bulk of my images taken since our move are of landscapes and other topographical features of the surrounding countryside. Of course when I go on holiday a camera usually comes too and I capture what is in front of me in order to create a photographic record of our holidays.
Over the years my equipment has changed, however, I have primarily used SLR cameras, although I do have a compact Canon G5X which is my usual “holiday” camera. In the main I have used Nikons and my current lineup is a Nikon Z6 mirrorless digital SLR and a Nikon D800 which gets used from time to time. I made the switch to digital from film in 2003. As for lenses I have a Nikkor 28-200mm zoom for the Z6 and also a Nikkor 105mm macro. I still have some lenses bought for the D800 – Nikkor 24-120mm, Tamron 150-600mm and a Nikkkor 70-200mm. These can be used with the Z6 by utilising the FTZ adapter.
Editing is done using a iMac, I have been a Mac devotee since 2013, using Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop. In common with numerous other photographers I probably spend more time editing than shooting! As I have mentioned on my personal website – www.davidmcgill.co.uk – I submit images from time to time to Alamy a vast library based near Abingdon in Oxfordshire. Currently as at July 2025 I have some 4000 images out of a total of over 400 million – small fry indeed! Owing to the marketplace being saturated with images the level of reproduction fees has greatly reduced in recent years.
